అతిపురాతనమైన భవనం ఇక కాలగర్భంలో కలిసిపోనుంది. శిథిలావస్థకు చేరిన నిజాం కాలంలో నిర్మించిన ఉస్మానియా ఆస్పత్రి భవనాన్ని వీలైనంత త్వరగా కూల్చివేయాలని ప్రభుత్వం నిర్ణయించింది. పూర్తిగా శిథిలావస్థకు చేరిన చారిత్రక ఉస్మానియా ఆసుపత్రిలోని పాత భవనాన్ని వెంటనే ఖాళీ చేయాలని డీఎంఈ రమేశ్‌రెడ్డి ఆదేశాలు జారీ చేశారు. కూలేందుకు సిద్ధంగా ఉన్న పాత భవనంలోని రోగులు, ఇతర కార్యాలయాలను వేరే భవనాల్లో సర్దుబాటు చేయాలని సూచించారు. ఆదేశాలు జారీ కావడంతో ఆస్పత్రి యంత్రాంగం భవనాన్ని ఖాళీ చేసింది.
1925లో ఉస్మానియా ఆస్పత్రి భవనాన్ని నిర్మించారు. నిర్వహణ లోపం వల్ల ఇప్పటికే శిథిలావస్థకు చేరుకున్న ఈ భవనం పై అంతస్తుల్లోని పైకప్పు తరచూ పెచ్చులూడి పడుతోంది. గోడలు బీటలు వారాయి. ఎప్పుడు కూలుతుందో తెలియని పరిస్థితి. దీనికి తోడు ఇటీవల కురిసిన వర్షానికి పాత భవనంలోని వార్డులను వరద ముంచెత్తడం, మురుగు నీటి మధ్యే రోగులకు చికిత్స అందించాల్సి రావడంపై పెద్ద ఎత్తున విమర్శలు వెల్లువెత్తాయి. ప్రస్తుత పరిస్థితుల్లో ఇక్కడ వైద్య సేవలు అందించడం ఏ మాత్రం సురక్షితం కాదని భావించిన ప్రభుత్వం తక్షణమే భవనాన్ని ఖాళీ చేయాలని ఆదేశాలు జారీ చేసింది.
ఇటీవల గచ్చిబౌలిలో ప్రారంభించిన టిమ్స్‌ ను తాత్కాలికంగా ఉస్మానియాకు కేటాయించి, ప్రస్తుతం ఇక్కడ ఉన్న కొన్ని విభాగాలను అక్కడికి తరలించడం వల్ల రోగుల రద్దీని నియంత్రించవచ్చని వైద్యులు భావిస్తున్నారు. ఇక ఉస్మానియా పాత భవనాన్ని యుద్ధ ప్రాతిపదికన కూల్చివేసి అక్కడ కొత్తగా 24 అంతస్థుల ట్విన్ టవర్స్ ను ఏడాదిలోపు పూర్తి చేయాలని ప్రభుత్వం భావిస్తోంది. పాత భవనాన్ని కూల్చి అదే స్థలంలో నిర్మాణం చేపట్టిన తర్వాత మిగతా భవనాలను కూల్చివేయనున్నారు. అనుకున్నట్లుగా నిర్మాణం పూర్తయితే ఇది దేశంలోనే అతిపెద్ద ప్రభుత్వాసుపత్రి కానుంది.
